Back at the beginning of April I referenced a well-used phase in the studio, “Inhale to prepare.” We had a lot to prepare for with COVID-19 and the stay-at-home orders. We here at Pilates in Holland are finally starting to exhale into movement. It’s time to shine on, just like the summer sun.
One of my all-time favorite songs (and singers!) is Shine On by May Erlewine. Let me share a couple of verses with you:
It’s been hard not to give in & it ain’t easy living
In hard times, I know it’s weighing on your mind
Next time you see me I’ll be uplifting
Yes, I will give you hope! I am learning as I go to / Shine on
I know how dark it seems, I feel it coming up
Inside of me & I feel it in you too, in everything we do
Next time you see me, we’ll both be laughing
O just to be alive! we are learning to shine / Shine on
So let’s take care of ourselves and each other. We know what to do, and it isn’t eating Oreos, watching endless tv, and imbibing lots of sugary drinks (my body is telling me that 8 weeks of doing that is probably enough. :))
The Holland Farmer’s Market is open and doing a good job of controlling the crowd size. If you are able to go, get some fresh fruits and veggies and try one of these great recipes. Jessica swears by her morning smoothie and Renee’s family loved this mango slaw!
Also make time to get outside for a walk, run, hike, or just a meander. If that isn’t an option for you, don’t forget we have lots of videos on our YouTube channel that you can check out, including this new one from Jayne and Terree that will challenge your core AND keep your back protected. More videos are also on the way!
No matter what, do something that makes your body feel good, as well as your soul. Call a friend, or better take a physically distanced walk with them! There’s something healing about seeing people’s faces, even if you can’t hug them. Plant a garden that will get you out in the sunshine, or even just a pot of flowers to brighten your environment.
We are choosing to Shine On and we hope you will too!
